The Ashley River Fire District was established in 1979 to provide fire coverage to lower Dorchester Co. District boundaries ran from the Charleston Co. line on both Dorchester and Ashley Phosphate Roads up to Kings Grant and into a large part Wescott Plantation. The Department also provided a first run Engine to nearby properties in Charleston Co. under an agreement with the North Charleston Fire District. (now part of the City of North Charleston Fire Department) We have Automatic Aid Agreements with the Dorchester Co. Fire Departments and Mutual Aid Agreements with several Fire Departments in the Greater Charleston area.
We are a combination department with career F/T, P/T and volunteer personnel.
In addition to fire suppression, our responsibilities include: First Responder Medical Response, Rescue, Fire Prevention Education, Inspections, investigations, and Community Education. We also respond to other public health, safety and welfare conditions that threaten our community.
